Faith Formation classes are for K-5th graders and are held on Sunday mornings from 9:00-10:00 AM September through May. In these classes, kids learn about the beauty and richness of the Catholic faith through exploring the details of the Mass, developing an understanding of sacred scripture and how it applies to their lives, frequenting the sacraments, and participating in different prayer forms.

Looking for ways to be more involved in the Mass? Consider volunteering for our Youth Mass!

Family Formation is the current curriculum we will be using for our Faith Formation (Grades K-5). For further info on the curriculum visit the Family Formation Resources and Events page.

The format of a typical month with Family Formation:

1- Monthly Classroom Session

3-4 Home Lessons

1- Age Conducive Service Project

Parental participation is vitally important for the success of any religious education program. Family Formation holds the role of the parents in pride of place in the formation of our youth, not only in the Home Lesson element of the curriculum, but even in our classroom sessions. For these sessions parents will attend and participate in the lessons with their kids. The purpose of this is to give parents a more active role in the formation of their kids, to equip them with the tools needed to do this effectively and to encourage and aid in their own ongoing education and formation in the Catholic Faith.

SFDS Family Formation Commitment

We recognize parents/guardians as the primary catechists of their children. As we join together in the faith formation of your child, we can only strengthen the Catholic life you lead at home. We support you in this ministry, but we cannot replace you. Rather, we seek to share with you in the role of imparting the true teachings of the Catholic faith to your children. We invite all St. Francis de Sales parents/guardians to partner in our pledge to faith and spiritual formation by:

  • Praying with your child(ren) daily and modeling prayer for them
  • Participating weekly in Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation
  • Attending faith formation sessions regularly
  • Reading and meditating on Scripture as a family
  • Attending Confession regularly as a family to receive Christ’s healing mercy (once a month recommended)
  • Living as the Body of Christ through generous self-giving of one’s time, talent, and treasure in our parish and local communities
