“After you have received Jesus, excite your heart to do homage to the King of salvation. Converse with him concerning your inmost concerns. Reflect that he is within you and has come to you for your happiness.”

-St. Francis de Sales

"If we truly believed in the Real Presence, we would go crawling on our hands and knees to receive the Eucharist."

-John Calvin

In the Holy Eucharist, we are nourished spiritually. We enter into a profound personal union with the Lord Himself, who said: “Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him” (John 6:56).

During the spring semester, we prepare our second-grade students and other children who have not received the sacrament to receive their First Holy Communion. Receiving the Eucharist, we hope, will become a life-long experience as food for the journey.

Children are blessed to be able to receive two sacraments during their second grade year: Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist. And though passing on the faith may seem like a daunting responsibility, our parish accompanies parents by offering two preparation classes to help them form their child(ren) with confidence. Sessions for the 2025-26 school year will take place on Sundays, February 1st and March 22nd, 2026, from 9:00-10:00 AM in the Parish Hall.

In addition to Scriptural passages from both the Old Testament and the New, parents are made aware of ways to explain the "Real Presence" of Jesus in the Eucharist. They also receive suggestions on practical preparations throughout the months that lead up to the reception of the sacrament.

Children not only receive instruction each scheduled week in class but also attend a half-day retreat and practice the Saturday prior to their First Holy Communion. This year's retreat is scheduled for Saturday, April 25th, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and First Communion will take place on Sunday, April 26th, 2026, at our 10:15 Mass. From the Archdiocese of KCK Office of Deaf Ministry:

"If you have a deaf child or know a parishioner who has a deaf child who needs to go through Sacramental preparation, please contact Katie Locus in the Office of Deaf Ministry at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or call us at 913-324-5378. Each deaf child has a different way of learning, and it is not always easy to figure out how to optimize his or her learning when it comes to our faith. We would be more than happy to work with you and your home parish to ensure each deaf child is able to both learn about our beautiful Catholic faith and stay on track and ready to receive Sacraments."
